Your secret power in life is to Know Thyself & Be Thyself.
A little side note before we dive in -
Many ancient gurus and spiritual teachers will tell you that “everything you need to know can be found by simply looking within oneself.”
Based on the fundamental universal laws our life experiences reflect our internal worlds. Know thyself is one of the 147 maxims, but it is still today the most important.
To know something provides a path or direction toward what you seek. To know is the first step, and to discover who you are is the key to living a life you love.
THERE IS NOBODY LIKE YOU. You are a unique expression of divinity. Perfect, not broken, but an original work of art. So you must take the time in this life to discover as much about yourself as possible.
What is a Life Map/Birth Chart?
In this post, I’d like to share a little about your life map. What it is, and how to use it as a tool for self-discovery. And, if you don’t yet have yours, how to find it?
So what is a life map/birth chart?
In essence, a life map (birth chart) is an astrological chart charted during the time, place, and day you came into this world. It marks the drawing of your first breath and offers a map to help you journey through your life.
“Whoever you are, whatever you do, when you REALLY want something, it’s because that desire originated in the soul of the universe. It’s your mission on Earth” ~ The Alchemist by Pablo Coelho.
I sincerely believe that we are given the desires we have because we are supposed to fulfill them. It’s by staying connected with ourselves, our Spirit, and the Spirit of the universe that guides us to have what we want, if only we’re willing to follow that niggle.
So, “when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it” ~ The Alchemist by Pablo Coelho - you just have to follow the signs.
What our ancestors knew that we’ve lost our connection to…
Astrology dates back as far as ancient Babylonia (1875 BC). Astrology was practiced and revered by the elites, kings, and royals for millennia. It has been studied and observed for thousands of years, and its comprehensive research is still as accurate as it was back then as it is today.
Our ancestors looked to the stars and cosmic forces for guidance, so why not us?
What can a life map tell you?
A life map (or birth chart) is a map for your life, and it’s up to you how you wish to use it. The nature of your life map is to offer insight into who you are and the kinds of experiences you’ll be an energetic match for. Your life map can share insights into how best you can learn and what will bring you joy, purpose, and success.
It’s a map that highlights your potential, gifts, and talents. A Life Map can offer you the path to true love, your ideal home, and how best you can support yourself.
The Life map can also show areas of life that won’t be of any interest to you. It can point to places of struggle and the hard lessons you’re here to learn, and it can even share wisdom about the best health practices for you.
Essentially, your life map will shine a light on your life. Whatever guidance you seek can be found and explored through decoding and reading your life map.
So, whether you’d like insight into your love life, career, financial prospects, friendships, or the environment that will allow you to reach your full potential - your life map can provide that guidance and insight.
So, are you doomed by the stars?
The answer is NO. There are two other realms that we should be considering. The human realm, from where free will, choice, and our actions reside, and the environmental realm. The environmental realm of the energy of 'place' deals with Feng Shui and the energy of proximity. We all know that anyone can thrive in the right environment & make the right choices (human factor).
Astrology is known as the Heavenly energies. We know that the Moon influences the tides of our oceans. So doesn’t it make sense that the other planets pull on us in real and tangible ways?
So it's true, astrology only makes up 1/3 of total energies, but it is the only one you cannot control. If you have the other two down, you can succeed and live your best life, but when you understand the Heavenly energies, you can thrive.
It's why some people are so accomplished they work with the energies present. They understand their nature and strengths and how to use them to their benefit, which is what astrology can offer you.
How to Read Your Life Map/Birth Chart?
There are a few different systems of astrology, but keeping it super simple, let’s focus on the most popular type of chart. The most common chart is a circle chart. To read your life map, you need to have your life map.
So if you don’t yet have a life map/birth chart you can get one by clicking here.
Please note you need an accurate time of birth for your life map to be accurate. You’ll also need your date and place of birth.
The Life Map/Birth Chart fundamentals
Every life map will consist of three things; the zodiac, the planets, and houses.
As you delve deeper into the world of Astrology, you’ll also learn about the following: aspects, asterisms/stars, divisional charts, time periods, transits, special charts like solar returns (predict events of each birthday year), and so on.
In the spirit of keeping things simple, I’ll break down the fundamental three elements of a life map/ birth chart.
The Zodiac & Zodiac Signs
When you think of the Zodiac, most people think of their “Sign” I’m a Pisces or a Gemini, but it is crucial to understand that the Zodiac just divides the sky.
The Zodiac is just a way of measuring space/cosmos. Therefore, the Zodiac is an area of the sky. It measures the pathway that planets travel. The Zodiac “Signs” are 12 equal 30-degree parts or divisions of the Ecliptic.
When you think of the Zodiac, think of different states and countries. Each state or territory has its own rules, communities, and standards. Each State/country is known for something unique to them. The culture is different, as such, producing a different environment.
Think of the Zodiac as boundary lines that separate the 360-degree cosmos into twelve equal 30-degree portions. That also adds an influence, tone, or vibe to the “house” it resides within.
The Signs
So if the zodiac just measures the sectors of the Sky, what are the signs?
The constellations (zodiac signs) add inspiration and influence to the planet journeying through that division/portion of the sky (Zodiac Sign). But the Zodiac is not a constellation on its own. It’s merely a division of space.
In essence, different people do differently in different areas of the same environment. Every environment has a trendy place, a dangerous place, a safe place, a wealthy thriving place, etc.
So to summarize, the Signs add an influence, tone, or vibe to the “house” it resides within. Some people love family gatherings, others tend to fight & get agitated. Same with travel, money, and love, we all do & behave differently in different sectors of our lives.
The Planets
When talking about Planets within astrology, I like to think of them as character archetypes, keys. These energy types will manifest within each of us in very specific ways. The archetypes can be found in all of life and life’s experiences.
Every single thing on planet Earth can be characterized as coming from one/or more of the twelve expressions derived from the planets.
In ancient times the Planets were seen as gods and each god has dominion over certain things. So astrologically, each god is gate-keeping certain areas of life. To unlock that area, or have it improved you simply would address that area in a way that the god would like or approve.
Who are these characters? What are the Planets in Astrology?
The planets that will show up on your life map/birth chart are the following: Sun ☉, Moon ☽, Mercury ☿, Venus ♀, Mars ♂, Jupiter ♃, Saturn ♄, Uranus ♅, Neptune ♆, Pluto ♇, Rahu ☊ (north node), and Ketu ☋ (south node).
Each character is known for specific things, and each Planet behaves differently when placed in different environments (houses and signs).
Essentially, each planet/character has 144 different potential expressions of itself. A Planet can fall in one of 12 zones or areas (houses), but it can also fall in one of twelve different signs (zodiac).
- There’s the core nature of each character, who they are and what they represent, the essence of themselves.
- Then you have their mood based on the zodiac sign it’s moving through.
- Finally, their behavior is based on the house or area they move through or what it activates for you - what they’re doing in that area of life.
The Keys to Your Life Map
As stated above, each planet signifies specific things. I like to think of the Planets as keys to your life map/birth chart. So when you’re looking to decode something, you’ll always refer to the key that unlocks the answer you seek.
For example you want to understand love, you look to Venus first, and what Venus is activating in your chart to unlock love matters. Can’t wait? I have a post over on Patreon that breaks this simple remedy down - click here to join.
Let’s dive into what each planet opens for you.
Your Path to Happiness: The Sun in Astrology ☉
The Sun is the heart of our universe. All the planets, comets, and asteroids are caught in the Sun’s gravitational pull. The Sun is what holds our solar system together. It’s the life bringer of the universe, for without it, all life will cease to exist.
In the same fashion, the Sun in our life Map represents our hearts (in medical astrology). The Sun is what makes life worthwhile. It’s our reason for being, what lights us up, and it’s how we shine.
So, your life is most likely gravitating around where your Sun falls in your life map (house/sign). It’s your path to happiness. The Sun is the Key to all that makes you shine, lights you up, brings you joy, and makes life worthwhile.

Navigating Your Inner World (Mental Health): The Moon in Astrology ☽
The Moon in your life map/Birth Chart is the key that helps you navigate your inner world. When it comes to moods, emotions, and personal well-being, we’re essentially dealing with the Moon ☽.
Looking at the Moon astronomically, we know that it has no light of its own it illuminates from the light reflected upon it from the Sun. In that sense, the Moon is a reflection based on what we experience in life. It’s our past, our collective memory/mind, and what makes us who we are.
After all, we’re all who we are, based on all that we’ve experienced in our life & what we’ve made that mean in our mind.
Think of the Moon as the part of us that keeps us safe, meets our needs, and is that inner voice that lives within. It’s the part of us that remains hidden and only comes out when under the influence of alcohol/drugs or when we feel safe enough to express it.
Where does the Moon ☽ fall for you?
Do you notice that when you’re in this area of life you feel more secure & emotionally stable (house position) of your Moon’s position in your life map?

Mercury is known by many names, the alchemist, the magician, the trickster, and the messenger god to name a few. When you look at the Mercury key in your life map you’re looking at the potential to manifest your desires.

Sex appeal, Fight style & Motivation: Mars in Astrology ♂
Mars the Planet of War, Power, and Energy. It’s the Key to our Energy in astrology. Mars often corresponds to the metal of Iron, which is why those with a weak Mars often have low Iron levels within the body.
When looking at your life map, Mars is the Key to all that energizes us. It’s our sex appeal, warrior style and all that motivates us and gets us going in life. It’s also said that Mars is the planet of scars, as such people can often find scars, markings, or even tattoos in the signifying body part of the house position.
If you seek to motivate a person, you need to understand a person's Mars placement. What makes you move and take action can be analyzed through the Mars position. Where Mars resides that we can be more impulsive and what energizes us to take action. It’s our will, and ability to conquer, fight, and how we can overcome life's difficulties.
Mars is the key to showing you how to get what you want. It will show you the best form of exercise, and how to energize yourself. Mars is your courage, so tapping into your Mars energy will give you the courage to overcome anything. If you want to achieve anything in life you first look to Mars for without action there can be no results.

Abundance, luck, experience & the Guru: Jupiter in Astrology ♃
Your key to personal growth, luck, protection, and abundance falls to Jupiter. Jupiter in your life map represents wisdom gained through experience. It’s a deeper more involved learning that brings true gnosis to any subject matter.
When you look to your Jupiter it’s the key that unlocks your luck. By being of service to or doing things connected to Jupiter, and activating the space where Jupiter resides in your life map, you open the door to luck, expansion, and abundance.
If you’re seeking guidance you can find this through an activity that connects to the house placement, or through the joining planets (if any) that it sits with. Jupiter is the planet where you can find a guide, mentor, and teacher. It shows you what’s needed to learn and what perhaps you enjoy experiencing.
Jupiter is a place of giving.
Jupiter is the place for giving, a place of spiritual growth, and where we grow most in life. It’s the zone of infinite possibilities and often brings a desire to explore, travel, and immerse ourselves within. If you seek an adventure, and to truly discover who you are visit a place connected to the house it falls within.
In a female's chart Jupiter also represents our spouse/partner/husband. A male's life map, Jupiter shows where you’re expected to give with no expectation of receiving. It’s their space to protect (for men), a place you guide, support, and share with others.
Typically Jupiter is a place we feel most generous. So, through our generosity, our act of charity is where we find fulfillment and belonging. What we give returns back to us. It can be a place we learn and then teach from.

The Struggle, the Legacy & Power: Saturn in Astrology
If Jupiter is the key to your luck in life, then Saturn can be felt as the opposite - but it isn’t.
You see, Saturn is the Key to our legacy, to what we’ve mastered in life (and this takes time). Saturn is the Key to time, it’s the gatekeeper to what you seek to experience but perhaps you feel cursed, or blocked from experiencing it.
Saturn up until age 36 is the area that we suck at. It’s a place on our life map that we naturally struggle with, and find challenging. We desperately seek to enjoy that space that Saturn unlocks for us, but we’re required to learn a lot, to put in a lot of time, energy, and dedication to the area it falls within.
Saturn is the key to Liberation
Saturn is the key to liberation, usually through pain and loss. It teaches us about responsibility, and it can make us very serious about the place it resides. It’s through the tenacity in not giving up that we realize our strength and in turn power.
So if you seek to learn more about your personal struggle and how to overcome, persevere, and come out triumphant then you must look to your Saturn Key. Your Saturn Key that will grant you access to success, achievement, and your life goals. It also offers you a rise in life, a solid foundation, and greater stability and longevity.

Upgrading Society ~ Uranus in Astrology ♅
The Uranus Key is one of our generational and personal evolution. It is what we are here to reform, innovate, and change within the society we belong to.
It can also be a Key that shows you where you’re most likely to be surprised, where things happen erratically, and suddenly, and where you gain sparks of inspiration.
Where your Uranus is placed is a place from which you need not conform to traditions or trends within your social/peer group. It’s about paving a new and evolved way.
In Vedic astrology, Uranus is not used, as much of its correspondence falls within Rahu’s domain (something that traditional Western astrologers didn’t use to follow).
Your Muse, Inspiration & Divine Connection ~ Neptune in Astrology ♆
The Neptune Key is our connection to the divine, it’s how the spirit world communes with us, and Neptune's place is where we’re most in tune and intuitive.
Neptune is the key to artist expression, both what a generational group will contribute and our own personal artistic style. Whether you’re into art, music, poetry, writing, design, dance, theater, photography, or videography. Your Neptune is the Key to your Muse. It’s where the whispers of inspiration spark creativity.
The Key to Neptune can also be the space you’re most likely confused, lost, and adrift in life. It requires presence, to not look too far forward, or live in the past, but to live in the now and have faith that you’re being guided to the place you desire.
In Vedic astrology, Neptune is not used, as much of its correspondence falls within Ketu’s domain (something that traditional Western astrologers didn’t use to follow).
Truth, healing & Power ~ Pluto in Astrology ♇
The Pluto Key opens the door to transformation, freedom & the darker tones of life, and life’s experiences. It’s the placement of rude awakenings, fear, addictions, and trauma.
You can think of the Pluto Key as an invisible force that pulls on you to explore, and that you cannot ignore. It’s the quest and Key of truth. Pluto is your Key to freedom and the path to your dark side or inner (under)world.
Pluto is your Key to personal power, but it also is a space where you’re more susceptible to manipulation, power struggles & lack of impulse control. It’s your lust, passion, and primal urges. It’s the key to your ambitions, secrets, and things kept hidden.
Generationally, Pluto is the Key that will show what your generation will expose the truth to that was kept secret in the generations that came before.
So, if you feel controlled, stuck, or held back, you want to address your Pluto Key, to access liberation, freedom, and healing on a core level. Where Pluto lies we can experience an almost obsessive tendency toward it. It’s the space that we seek to pick apart, to fully and completely understand on a deep, and profound level.
In Vedic astrology, Pluto is not used, as much of its correspondence falls within (Mars &) Ketu’s domain (something that traditional Western astrologers didn’t use to follow).
Rahu/North Node in Astrology ☊
The Nodes of the Moon (Rahu/North and Ketu/South) are the keys to one's destiny, fate, and path in life. They behave in a way that creates divine intervention, the unfolding of circumstances that put us on the “destined” path in life.
Rahu in many ways can point towards our soul's yearning, what we absolutely seek to experience in this lifetime. As such, Rahu is a magnetic force that pulls us towards it, we seek it and at the same time, we have no idea how to reach it.
Rahu (the north node) is symbolic of the dragon's head, creating that insatiable hunger for whatever it opens in your chart. The North node is a place we’re encouraged to explore. It’s a space that will bring spiritual and personal growth to the soul.
The place of opportunity can be found with your Rahu Key. It will present fast learning, your mind being more present there because it’s your zone of genius.
Rahu thinks while Ketu reacts. This is why in topics of destiny and fate you need to strike a balance between your Ketu key (and what it opens) and your Rahu Key. Your destiny stems from earlier childhood experiences (Ketu) as it’s what paves the path to your Rahu.
Ketu being the past, instilled intuition, whereas Rahu is the vision of becoming the future. The why (Ketu) is equally as important as the what or the result (Rahu).
Your Destiny unfolding
The transiting nodes (change signs every 18 months) point to how the universe is guiding us along fulfilling our path and destiny. Every year around the two eclipse season we’re given a push towards change and letting go. It’s your personal evolution, the milestone moments, and the stepping stones to achieving your purpose and path in life.

Ketu/South Node in Astrology ☋
The Nodes of the Moon (Rahu/North and Ketu/South) are the keys to one's destiny, fate, and path in life. They behave in a way that creates divine intervention, the unfolding of circumstances that put us on the “destined” path in life.
Ketu in many ways can point towards our soul's talent, what we came into this lifetime with a knack for, things we innately know or pick up with relative ease. It is the Key where success can come a little easier because our spirits are already attuned to its frequency.
Ketu (the South node) is symbolic of the dragon's body, creating that primal knowing for whatever it unlocks in your chart. The South node tends to be key we don’t wish to experience, it’s a been there and done that feeling. We usually don’t have that big an interest in the Ketu area or it creates separation to the things it activates within your chart.
Ketu's Key.
The Ketu Key can present more of a cutthroat, intuitive, direct, and honest approach to where it resides in your life map.

Every year around the two eclipse season we’re given a push towards change and letting go. Houses in Astrology: The Pathways of Life
The houses within Astrology act as zones or areas of one's life. There will always be 12 houses in any given chart or twelve pathways of life. Each house or zone will represent specific things that we can get into in just a moment.
The house explains what is happening, or the experience that is taking place. So, the houses that have planets within them are going to be more active than the ones that don’t have any.
Let us break down each house.
What is the first house in Astrology?
The First house in astrology represents how one journeys through life, it shows how you take action. I like to think of the first house as the movie genre of one's life. Think of it as the simulation of this incarnation, what your life is about.
The first house also plays a role in one's physicality, image, appearance, and health. It can often be a person's first impression of you. The front cover of the book of you. Need I say it, but you should never judge a book by its cover.
The character you play in this life is going to be a mixture of your Sun and how you feel about it will be the moon. The struggle could be Mars, your love story could be the 7th house, its ruler, and Venus. There are so many ways to break down a chart to extract its wisdom and advice. Let's keep things simple and move on to house two.

What is the 2nd house in Astrology?
When it comes to the second house we deal with all that’s yours. It’s what sustains you, your knowledge, assets, wealth, family, and security matters. The second house is what you need in life and how you ask for what you need.
So the second house is your voice, your (poker) face, the material possessions, your five senses, and what you value. The 2nd house is your resources and how you might obtain more of them.

What is the 3rd house in Astrology?
The third house in astrology is where you go daily, it’s your communications and interactions with the world. It’s the place of your environment, neighborhood, and community. The 3rd house in astrology is your local haunts, the places you frequent, the grocery store, petrol station, coffee shop, or whatever is part of your routine.
It’s also the people you interact with every day, or that are just around you, it’s what's normal for you. It can be your representative of your siblings (younger), work colleagues, team mates, and such. So it connects to your social media presence, websites you visit, and apps you use. Essentially it’s where you get informed or learn things.

What is the 4th house in Astrology?
The fourth house in astrology corresponds with your home life, upbringing, and your roots (IC). It’s the place of the chart that assesses your private life, it’s all that inspires and shapes your life. After all, it’s our earlier childhood experiences that lay the foundation of our life.
You can also look to the 4th house to understand what that person needs to feel “at home”. It can tell you a lot about the kind of home one has or aspires to have. How it is decorated, the kinds of creature comforts one has, and what they need to feel safe. The fourth house in astrology also points to larger conveniences, like cars for example.

What is the 5th house in Astrology?
The fifth house in astrology is your source of entertainment and what you do for fun. It’s your adolescent phase, the first love experience, and your creative self-expression. The 5th house in astrology can point to one's talents, hobbies, and children.
When it comes to this space we’re looking at your potential to create something. It’s the house of sex, pleasure, and therefore your children/students/audience. The fifth house is connected to desire, fun, and inspiration. It’s what you make. Be it a brand, business, YouTube channel, project, work of art, music, or book… it becomes your ability to manifest your desires.

The 12th house is what you hide, it’s all that stops you from having what you desire. When it comes to this space it can offer an insight into a person's psyche, that version of themselves that they keep to themselves.
Typically the 12th house is a place of isolation, self-undoing, and privacy. It’s how we suffer, or what causes our suffering. Usually connected to the mind (mental health/unresolved trauma). The 12th is also a deeply spiritual house because you’re usually alone or spend time with your thoughts, disconnected from the world. Therefore can point to an ideal spiritual practice or healing modality.
It’s your most painful experience. It’s also what can promote healing.
Places that the 12th house corresponds to are things like hospitals, jails, prisons, ashrams, temples, other worlds, secluded places, and places of exiles.

The zodiac signs paint the houses with a tone or mood for how we experience that area of life. For example, we all have relationships of some kind that are impactful, but we each have a different 7th house experience. An Aries will experience 7th house matters under the sign/filter of Libra, a Pisces will experience them more with a Virgo tone.
Some people will have planets in various houses/signs and those will be important to note. However, for this post, I want to give a brief understanding of each sign and the kind of vibe it will give.
You can then look at each house and begin to decode and piece your life story together.
